Ebenezer Baptist Church

Ebenezer Baptist Church, a Baptist church in Atlanta, Georgia, United States is affiliated with the Progressive National Baptist Convention (ABC) and American Baptist Churches USA. It was the church in which Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. served as co-pastor between 1960 and 1968, where he was assassinated in 1968. It also hosted the funerals of John Lewis and Dr. King. It is also the church for United States Senator Raphael Warnock, who has been the pastor of the church since 2005. It is located in the historic area known as the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Park.

The church was established in 1886 by Pastor John A. Parker, eight others, and is still in existence today. The name of the church comes from the Books of Samuel. In the Samuel, the Samuel names a "Ebenezer" place to commemorate God's help in defeating the Philistines.

In 1894, Adam Daniel Williams, the maternal grandfather of Martin Luther King Jr., was elected pastor. The church had just 13 members. The church grew to 400 members in 1903, and by 1913 it had 750 members. The building was dedicated in 1922. Martin Luther King Sr. was appointed assistant pastor in 1927 with his father-in law. After Rev. Williams died in 1931. Martin Luther King Jr. was made co-pastor of his church in 1960 with his father, until his assassination on 28 August 1968.

1999 saw the opening of the Horizon Sanctuary, a 1,700-seat church located within the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Park.

U.S. has been the U.S.'s senior pastor since 2005. U.S. Senator Raphael Warnock is currently the senior pastor at Ebenezer Baptist Church. He is the fifth person to have served as Ebenezer's senior Pastor since its inception. Warnock announced his candidacy for Kelly Loeffler's Senate seat in 2020's special election. Reverend Warnock won a special election to replace Loeffler on January 5, 2021. He received 51% of the popular votes. Warnock became the first Black senator in Georgia with this win.

The church hosted the funeral of Martin Luther King Jr. on April 9, 1968. The funeral of Rayshard B. Brooks took place at the church on June 23, 2020. John Lewis' funeral was held at the church on July 30, 2020.
